The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.
Replay systems will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Competitors will gain the right to contest specific calls made by the official, following the protocol already in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This development arrives only a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which terminated the centuries-old role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to review specific situations, including:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Notably, there will be no limit on the number of challenges a competitor can initiate.
Practical Application
A recent incident occurred in Indian Wells last week, where a top player used the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.
Further Updates
A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on displays to support the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves situations where spectators have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
